The typical gas fired tank-style water heater will last ten to twelve years. The tankless type is more energy efficient and can last up to fifteen years, which is one reason some people opt for installing a tankless water heater system VS the tank type because of the energy savings. Hot water on demand is nice to have, plus the longer life expectancy tends to make up the difference in the installation cost.

Once you are aware of a problem, don't wait for water damage to force your hand, get this work done sooner rather than later. There are many types of high efficiency water heaters on the market now so speaking with a heating consultant will help you choose what size water heater, type and brand. Our DIY Tip

If you are thinking of installing a new traditional tank water heater yourself there are a few precautions you must take before moving ahead with the install yourself. You need to be up to date on building codes, familiar with direct vent pipe, the electric heating components and be licensed to hook up a natural gas line, if that's the type of water heater you've chosen. Energy efficiency may suffer, or worse thangs can happen if mistakes are made.

Experience with this type of job gives us a common method to follow for proper installation, knowing expectations and outcome.

We won't go into a "how to" guide here for installing a new hot water heater as we do not want to encourage an amateur to tackle a job that is potentially dangerous. If you're thinking of the tankless unit because of the savings on energy bills, you'll definitely want to hire an experienced professional for that job. A new unit will probably be a different size so you need to look at square footage, gas connections, venting, how to remove the old unit, etc.

Call a Professional

There are a number of steps involved with a furnace, a new hot water tank or tankless water heater installation. This is even more intense when it comes to installing a new boiler system. The electrical and plumbing connections, plus carbon monoxide ventilation makes this a labor intensive job that should only be done by a licensed plumber to avoid additional cost. Cost effective labor costs will outweigh any potential amateur mistake and help keep the cost of heating to a minimum.

Call for an appointment today and we'll go over installation costs and time needed for the job. We can get your indoor air quality back to normal pretty quick. If you called us while the unit still has sufficient heat then we'll schedule the installation. You should have enough for hot showers until we can get a man on location.

A typical residential installation will take up to eight hours, but can be completed quicker under ideal circumstances. Things like type of unit and ease of access play a role in time and cost of labor. Our heating technician will be able to give you a better idea what's involved once we're on location.
